  • What is SMP?

Scalp Micro Pigmentation. An incredible life-changing treatment where natural pigments are applied at the epidermal level of the scalp to replicate the natural appearance of real hair follicles. We specialize in men with male pattern baldness, women with thin spots & alopecia.

  • Is this a tattoo?

This technique should not be performed by any tattoo artist. It should always be performed by a licensed and certified SMP artist who is trained specifically in SMP. That being said, this treatment is performed with a tattoo machine with a microneedle. The difference between a traditional tattoo and SMP is that we are implanting specialized pigment in the epidermal layer of the scalp and, therefore, not going as deep as a traditional tattoo and using a pointillism method to create the look of real hair follicles. Our pigments are not the same as tattoo ink. They are made specifically for this type of procedure. We use an all natural, plant-based pigment that is organic and non-carcinogenic. We dilute these pigments to create several different shades of color, depending on the client’s skin tone and hair color.

  • How long does the procedure take?

This procedure is a layering technique that typically is done over two-four treatments. Each treatment is approximately two-four hours, depending on the size of the area being treated.

  • How long does it last?

Up to five years. Fading will gradually happen over time.

  • What is the downtime?

Downtime is minimal. You may have a little pinkness to your scalp for a few hours after the procedure. You will not be able to sweat or wash your scalp/hair for five days and no shaving for 10 days. It will look great right away.

  • Can you camouflage or cover up accident scars or from hair transplant scars?

The short answer is “yes,” but depending on how old the scar is and the condition of the scar, it may take a little extra work to prepare the scar for SMP.

  • How much does this cost?

A thorough consultation is required to discuss the size of the area being treated & length of the treatment, to determine price. It all depends on the size of the area being treated. We treat anything from small alopecia spots to full scalps, so prices vary.
