WinterSkinCareTips LagunaMedSpa:BeautyasanArt

We all know winter is around the corner and I’m sure we are already feeling the effects. But one thing that changes with the weather quickly is our skin! Here I’m going to share a few tips on how to protect that skin and keep it glowing even through these frigid temperatures.

Number 1 tip is to stay hydrated. This means inside and outside of your body. Try and get in that daily recommend 8 glasses of water a day.  One way to make guzzling down that water easier is by adding fresh fruit to your water which also has many amazing benefits. My favorite is cucumber, lime, and lemon which flushes out toxins, improves the body’s metabolism, and of course has lots of skin health benefits. And if you don’t already have one add a humidifier to your winter nightly routine. I promise you’ll thank me later. This adds moisture back into the air and help prevent your skin from drying out overnight.

Next,  is going to be switching up that daily skin routine. Its already important to switch products up as our skin changes but this is extremely important as the cold elements effect our skin.  Start with a basic gentle cleanser, most cleansers can be extremely drying to the skin so, if  you’re used to using cleansers with glycolic or salicylic acid, rotate with a more hydrating version that contains moisturizing ingredients. Also, when washing your face or hands, choose lukewarm water to avoid stripping necessary oils away from the skin. Immediately after cleaning the skin apply a hydrating moisturizer or serum to damp skin, this helps seal that moisture into the skin. Also, when choosing a winter moisturizer opt for an oil-based moisturizer rather than a water-based solution, as it’s more likely to help your skin retain moisture in the winter. In addition, exfoliating that winter skin gently is also extremely important. Opt for a gentle exfoliating mask or cleanser and use it on your face, hands, body, gently on your lips, and then follow immediately with moisture to truly see a smooth plump glowing skin. Then seal this off with a tinted or hydrating SPF to protect all that work you already out into your skin. Even if the weather its cloudy or snowing out just know those UV rays are still damaging to the skin and  sunscreen is a must!

Its also very important to amp up your nightly skincare routine. Continue with a gentle face cleanser. After cleaning, opt for an antioxidant serum to ensure anti aging, cell turnover, and locked in moisture. Night time is perfect for adding a thicker moisturizer to the skin.  Again, try and choose an oil based moisturizer for extra hydration. No matter if you have wrinkles or not eye cream is a must, they help fight  fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles, and all around adds hydration to that gentle skin around the eyes. Choose the cream regarding your concerns and I recommend dapping the product into the skin to avoid causing any further damage around the eyes. Lastly apply your nightly lip treatment or mask to protect from dry lips that cause cracks and bleeding. And… don’t forget to turn that humidifier on before heading to bed! I hope these tips help you get through the harsh effects winter does to our skin and if you have any treatments or product needs please call me or stop in to schedule!!
